With the continuous progress of the project, the main construction of the Guiping Expressway from Wudang, Guiyang to Tian 'e, Guangxi has been basically completed and is now in the stage of pavement construction. The 4th section of the Guiping Expressway's pavement has boldly innovated by introducing the "unmanned spreading and rolling" technology for pavement spreading. This is also the first successful application of unmanned spreading and rolling technology in pavement construction in Guizhou.
At the construction site, the road paving work is in full swing. One paver and six rollers worked in teams to evenly spread and compact the asphalt mixture used for road construction on the ground in an orderly manner. Surprisingly, there was no one in the cabs of these six road rollers.
Wu Jia 'an, the on-site application engineer of LM4 on Guiping Expressway, introduced: "We adopted the unmanned driving cluster collaboration technology independently developed by XCMG Group. We installed autonomous driving rollers on the road rollers and used the Beidou positioning system to monitor their positions in real time, thus achieving unmanned driving. One person can operate six road rollers."
"Unmanned paving and rolling" belongs to the intelligent unmanned aerial vehicle group construction of concrete, integrating multiple advanced technologies such as high-precision Beidou positioning, automatic control, intelligent perception, group control safety, and task coordination. It realizes the unmanned operation of pavers and rollers, enabling mechanical equipment to work in clusters and in coordination. This technology also features remote wake-up and sleep functions, enabling continuous construction around the clock.
Pan Liangcai, the chief engineer of the LM4 project on Guiping Expressway, said, "By introducing the Beidou system into the unmanned system, on the intelligent construction management platform, data such as construction trajectories, compaction speed changes, construction speeds, and temperature collection can be clearly presented. This helps us better control quality checkpoints during the construction process."
As summer approaches and the temperature gradually rises, the temperature of the asphalt pavement during compaction operations can reach over 100℃. The application of new technologies not only reduces the number of personnel engaged in high-temperature operations but also lowers the safety risks brought about by human-machine interaction operations. In addition, the unmanned roller group is also equipped with multiple safety precautions such as automatic early warning, emergency parking, and automatic obstacle avoidance, providing a solid guarantee for safe construction.
Wu Jia 'an said, "During the construction process, the unmanned driving's compaction trajectory and speed change remained consistent and extremely precise." However, manual operations may experience underpressure and under-pressure due to factors such as fatigued driving, making it difficult to ensure flatness and compaction. The "unmanned spreading and rolling" machine group is equipped with an intelligent terminal system. Construction workers only need to set parameters such as the rolling trajectory and speed of the construction section in advance, and the unmanned spreading and rolling equipment can automatically complete a series of tasks such as driving and turning as planned. "Our system has been developed over a long period of time and is now quite mature. It is easy to operate. After receiving systematic training, our staff can quickly start working independently." "
It is learned that the "unmanned spreading and rolling" machine group applied on the Guiping Expressway this time is undergoing tests on the asphalt surface of the 4th section of the Guiping Expressway. After the successful acceptance of the results, it will be widely promoted and applied in the construction.
Pan Liangcai introduced, "By integrating various construction data through the AI system and the Beidou satellite system and presenting them on the information platform, we can observe the construction process more intuitively and realistically." Under the background of the new era, developing new quality productive forces is a necessary measure for the construction of our expressways, which is more in line with the theme of high-quality development.
The Guiping Expressway, with a total length of approximately 174.02 kilometers, is a key transportation support project of Guizhou Province's "Strong Provincial Capital" initiative and is scheduled to be open to traffic by the end of this year. By then, the driving time from Guiyang to Guangxi will be shortened from three and a half hours to two and a half hours, which is of great significance for the construction of a new vertical high-standard sea passage from Guiyang to Nanning and Beihai.
